" Perioperative nurse by day, Fitness coach by night "
Hi! I am Jennifer. People usually call me Jenn.
I am an Operating Theatre Nurse of 25 years, and a Certified Personal Trainer for the last 15 years.
I was an introvert in my youth. During school, I often kept to myself and did not socialize or play with my classmates. When I was in secondary 2, I was infected with Tuberculosis Meningitis and was hospitalized for a period of time. I endured the pain of numerous lumbar punctures, underwent various blood tests and scans, and tolerated a significant amount of medications. My condition was complicated by hydrocephalus, a condition where fluid accumulates in the brain. This necessitates several surgeries for shunt implantation, in order to relieve pressure buildup in the brain. As I recover, I must complete the nine-month course of anti-TB medication.
Having two permanent implants, I must be cautious to avoid physical contact that could risk another hospital visit or require additional surgery. I never had the opportunity to learn swimming or cycling, nor can I play any sports. This sedentary lifestyle led to weight gain, and over time, I gradually became obese, which resulted in deteriorating health and fitness.
These experiences have underscored the importance of good health and fitness for me. Since beginning my career as a nurse, the urgency to shed the extra weight and take charge of my life has become even more apparent.
In 2010, I switched to part-time work in nursing and began training with a personal trainer to shed the extra weight. Along with adopting healthier eating habits, I succeeded in losing over 20kg in two years.
